About this piece
The Vigil 42 is a four-night bag. It measures 22 inches long, 12 high and 11 deep, holds 42 litres, and clears the carry-on allowance on every major US carrier at the time of writing. Check your airline before you fly — allowances change and we would rather you gate-checked nothing.
The shell is 4.5 oz full-grain leather, vegetable-tanned and drum-dyed all the way through, so the first scuff does not reveal a pale core underneath. The base carries five solid brass feet over a hidden reinforcement panel, which is why the bag stands up loaded instead of slumping onto the leather.
Inside there is one full-width zip pocket, two open sleeves sized for a wash kit and a pair of shoes, and a removable padded sleeve that takes up to a 16-inch laptop. The 38 mm shoulder strap is included and detaches; replacements are sold separately, because a strap is the part that wears out first and nobody should replace a bag over one.

Care & repair
- 1Wipe with a dry cloth after travel. Do not soak.
- 2Condition twice a year with any neutral leather cream.
- 3Let a wet bag dry away from direct heat — a radiator will crack the grain.
- 4Zips and feet are replaceable. Email us rather than binning the bag.
Stitching and hardware are covered for 10 years from delivery against failure in normal use. Wear, patina, darkening and surface marks are not faults and are not covered — they are what the material does. Repairs outside the warranty are quoted before any work starts.
