Why it costs what it costs
A bag fails at four places.
Strap, zip, base, and the stitching where the handle meets the body. Almost every bag thrown away in its first five years failed at one of those four, and almost none of them failed because the leather wore out.
So that is where the money goes here: YKK zips a size heavier than the load needs, solid brass instead of plated, hidden base reinforcement, and bar-tacked handle roots. It is also why the strap, the wheels and the buckles are sold separately — the point of over-building the four failure points is that the fifth one is replaceable.
Read the material standardsEvery dimension published
External dimensions including hardware, internal volume, and empty weight — on every product page, before you buy. If the item does not match, that is a fault and it comes back at our cost.
Full-grain, not corrected
Corrected-grain leather is sanded and embossed to hide the scars. It looks flawless for a year and then peels. Ours shows the hide it came from, including the marks.
Parts, not replacements
Straps, wheels, feet, buckles and pen loops are all stocked. A dead wheel should cost $18 and a screwdriver, not a new case.
Ten years on the hardware
Stitching and hardware are covered for ten years against failure in normal use. Patina, darkening and surface marks are not faults — that is the material doing what it does.

“Four years of weekly flights on the Vigil. I have had one zip slider replaced, which they sent free, and otherwise it has just gone darker.”

“The wheel came off in Denver. I ordered two spares for $34, fitted them with a screwdriver at the hotel, and the case is still in service.”

“Loaded with a 16-inch machine, a charger and a lunch, it still sits square on my back. That is not true of the pack it replaced at twice the price.”

45 days to decide. Ten years to wear it out.
Carry it, pack it, take it on a trip. If it is not right, we send a prepaid label and refund you in full — used, marked or otherwise. After that, the stitching and hardware are covered for ten years and the wear parts are all stocked.
