About this piece
The Bifold No. 1 holds eight cards across four slots, with folded notes in the bill channel. It measures 4.4 × 3.5 inches closed and 0.4 inches thick loaded, because the leather is skived down to 1.2 mm at the folds — the step most bifolds skip, and the reason most bifolds wedge open in a back pocket.
Saddle-stitched by hand in waxed linen thread. A machine lockstitch unravels the length of a seam when one stitch is cut; a saddle stitch does not.
Edges are burnished in four passes rather than painted. Painted edges photograph better for about six months and then chip.
